ALEXANDRA SOUMM violin
French violinist Alexandra Soumm has performed with most of the world’s leading orchestras and is also a passionate chamber musician. Her repertoire spans from Baroque to contemporary music, with a particular interest in collaborations with living composers and cross-disciplinary projects.
As a soloist, she has appeared with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris and Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse, working with conductors such as Herbert Blomstedt, Neeme Järvi, Marin Alsop, Tugan Sokhiev, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla and Kazuki Yamada.
A committed chamber musician, Alexandra has performed at venues including Wigmore Hall, the Auditorium du Louvre, BOZAR in Brussels and Toppan Hall in Tokyo. She was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist and received the London Music Masters Award.
Her discography includes recordings of Bruch, Paganini and Grieg for Claves, as well as Paris est une fête with the Orchestre de chambre Pelléas and Benjamin Lévy, which received 5 Diapasons in 2024.
Born in Moscow and raised in Montpellier, Alexandra studied in Vienna with Boris Kuschnir and was a member of the Seiji Ozawa International Academy Switzerland for twelve years. From 2021 to 2025, she taught at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
In 2012, she co-founded the charity foundation Esperanz’Arts, bringing music and artistic encounters to audiences with limited access to cultural life such as homeless people, prisons, and hospitals.
Alexandra lives in Brussels and is a member of the CAROUSEL Ensemble.
She plays a Gioffredo Cappa violin dating from c. 1700.
